How To Drive Safely Up Hill

Driving up hill is different from driving down hill and driving on a level road. So, different techniques most be applied when driving on such roads. Driving up hill requires extra care so as to avoid road traffic accident. Follow the tips below to drive safely up hill.
  • Avoid high speed when driving up hill.
  • Ensure your vehicle is thoroughly examined before driving up hill. Focus on the brake and steering.
  • Don’t follow closely a vehicle driving up hill. Ensure the vehicle ahead has succeeded in driving safely uphill before you start moving. Failure to do this may lead to road traffic accident as the vehicle ahead may roll down and hit the vehicle behind especially if the vehicle ahead is carrying heavy goods.
  • Avoid overtaking when driving up hill as it is very unsafe to do so.
  • If you must park your vehicle during the process of driving uphill probably as a result of emergencies, ensure you do so without posing threat to other road users. You can do this by turning the wheels to the left as far as possible to prevent it from rolling backwards in the traffic. Turn your wheels to the right if your country permit left lane drive.
